Wiener Staatsoper

Ballet: Concerto/ Eden/ Marguerite and Armand

Choreography: Kenneth MacMillan
Music: Dmitri Schostakowitsch, Klavierkonzert Nr. 2, F-Dur, op. 102

Choreography, Stage: Wayne McGregor
Music: Steve Reich, Dolly aus Three Tales

Choreography: Frederick Ashton
Music: Franz Liszt, Klaviersonate h-Moll, arr. Dudley Simpson

The evening programme is entirely dedicated to “British choreography”: MacMillan,
McGregor and Ashton are three choreographers who represent the same dance tradition.
Concerto – an abstract ballet – opens the evening in the neo-classical style, with
each of the three movements offering opportunity for demonstrating the dancers’
virtuosity. EDEN|EDEN explores the charged relationship between man and technology
against the backdrop of current developments such as “cloning” and “cyborgs”.
The final ballet in the programme, Marguerite and Armand, was created for Margot
Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev and is now a classic example of the English art of dance.
