With a penchant for Buddha and South Park, young Tianzhuo Chen is the enfant terrible of the Chinese Arts scene. Inspired by the Bhagavad Gītā, his opera-happening Ishvara makes a statement about global pop culture, mixing religious symbols with references to drugs, drag, hip hop, Butoh and voguing. Tianzhuo Chen dissects history and religion to capture human existence and spiritual exploitation in the modern world.
