What happens when a legendary principal dancer and former ballet director like Susanne Kirnbauer-Bundy is invited back to the stage at the age of 82? And by exactly the right choreographer to boot, who performs alongside her: Doris Uhlich. Then a comeback can turn into a triumph. Uhlich has proven numerous times that she has a knack for working with extraordinary people who fall outside the norms of mainstream society. This enables Kirnbauer-Bundy to demonstrate that the challenges of old age can be met with wit and nonchalance, making them less frightening in the process. She does without imitating youthfulness or a victim mentality, bringing emotion and aplomb to the stage. In her joint performance with Uhlich, she shows how artistic empathy can be transferred to the audience. Whether in a shirt, trousers and sneakers or in a gigantic tutu, whether in mystical semi-darkness or in the bright glow of the spotlights – the charismatic dancer does away with old and new clichés effortlessly.
