The turbulent operetta Indigo goes on a journey. A pair of Viennese lovers are stranded on the exotic island of King Indigo. She, Fantasca, ends up in his harem, but knows how to keep the king at bay. He, Janio, makes himself popular as an advisor to Indigo, who does not want to admit that his kingdom is facing a crisis: The army is weak, the larder is empty, and robbers are supposedly up to mischief in the forest. To escape from the king's clutches, Fantasca arranges for Indigo to offer a reward: Whoever catches the robbers will get her as their wife. While Indigo is busy making herself a god, Fantasca disguises herself and the other harem girls as robbers and lets Janio catch them. By chance, a ship bound for Vienna passes by and takes the lovers and all those who are tired of being on an island on board.
