The thematic starting point of this project is a broad understanding of dignity: it is not limited to the dignity of human beings, but also includes the dignity of nature, all living beings and all available resources.

On the one hand, Climate Dignity means that all people have the right to live in a world in which their health, freedom and livelihoods are not impaired by climate change. In terms of climate justice, this applies in particular to those people, communities and countries that are or will be most affected by the impacts of climate change and are therefore particularly worthy of protection. Climate Dignity also emphasizes that the effects of man-made climate change and the associated loss of biodiversity not only threaten human dignity, but also endanger nature. In this way, the underlying concept of Climate Dignity focuses on the interdependence of humans and nature: anyone who violates the dignity of nature also damages human dignity.
