The Künstlerhaus is showing an insight into the diverse work of Hannes Mlenek. Large-format paintings and drawings are juxtaposed with the “Medusa” project, which Mlenek realized with the performance artist and choreographer Bert Gstettner in the Brotfabrik-Expedithalle and the Odeon Theater in Vienna as well as the Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York (2015-2018).

The painting “The Raft of the Medusa” (1819) by Théodore Géricault served as inspiration for Mlenek to explore the theme of flight and the image of fugitives. Another theme was violence, particularly towards women: In a performative act, Mlenek poured blue paint - like tears - over an image of Medusa in the exhibition space.
