René Staar, conductor

Arnold Schönberg: Suite op. 29
Pierre Boulez: Sonatine für Flöte und Klavier; Dérive I
Eugene Hartzell: String Trio
Lili Boulanger: D’un matin de printemps
Dietmar Hellmich: Kammermusik Nr. 5
Gerald Resch: Terzeln für 3 Klarinetten

The concert is honoring Pierre Boulez on his 100th birthday. While the early Sonatine still shows clear traces of Schönberg and Webern, "Dérive I" reveals the enchanting sonic sensuality of his later works. Alongside works by Eugene Hartzell, who was a later disciple of the Second Viennese School, Lili Boulanger, and more recent compositions, Schönberg’s Suite, op. 29 will be performed. The work is characterized by a dance-like impetus and was conducted by Boulez himself in a concert at the Arnold Schönberg Center in 2009 together with the Ensemble Wiener Collage!
