Arnold Schönberg: 15 poems from "The Book of Hanging Gardens" op. 15
Franz Schubert: Entr'acts and ballet music to the drama Rosamunde D 797 (Arr. A. Schönberg)

In August 1904, Universal-Edition in Vienna published an arrangement of Franz Schubert’s “Rosamunde” by Arnold Schönberg. It is likely that Schönberg was inspired by the highly expressive nature of this incidental music. Four years later, he wrote his great song cycle based on poems by Stefan George, which became a landmark of early atonality. In our concert, the two seemingly very different works engage in dialogue with each other, thus revealing their latent similarities.
