How badly must a woman have been hurt emotionally when she renounces her once beloved husband forever and kills their children? Betrayed and deeply offended by her husband Jason, the outcast Medea, who is hated and despairing by everyone, takes revenge in just this way. Aribert Reimann, one of the most important and sought-after composers of the present day, creator of numerous successful musical theater works, took up the Medea material and now wrote his own interpretation of this myth for the Vienna State Opera, following Grillparzer's version.
