Johannes Maria Staud, born in Innsbruck in 1974, began composing in elementary school and later studied at the Vienna Academy of Music with Iván Eröd (harmony and counterpoint), Michael Jarrell (composition) and Dieter Kaufmann (electroacoustic composition), as well as philosophy and musicology at the University of Vienna.
He is one of the most internationally acclaimed Austrian composers of the present day and, like Arnold Schönberg, is published by Universal Edition in Vienna.
