On the streets of Seville on a blazing hot summer evening, two young people meet who could not be more different: The fateful love of the impulsive factory worker Carmen and the clueless sergeant José sweeps the unequal couple into a whirlpool of love, jealousy, hatred and disgust.

Georges Bizet created an equally boundless abundance of grandiose melodies for this love that transcends all boundaries: Habanera, Flower Aria, Torero Song, Seguidilla, Smuggler's Quintet - all these melodious masterpieces find their echo in the equally wild and gentle landscape of the St. Margarethen quarry, which thus becomes a parable for the most fascinating figure on the opera stage.
