Multiculturalism was practically born into her: Lila Downs is the daughter of a Native American mother and an American father with Scottish roots. She spent her childhood and youth in the USA and Mexico, where she gained experience as a mariachi singer from an early age. On this diverse cultural background, Downs' blaze of color unfolds brilliantly. This refers both to the portrayal of her personality and to her music, in which she combines Latin American, North American and indigenous cultures into a colorful sound symbiosis.
