Painted emotions

The Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien is showing a major retrospective of Paul Gauguin's work - the first in Austria since 1960.
The exhibition follows Gauguin from his beginnings as a post-impressionist to his pioneering role as one of the fathers of modernism and encompasses all facets of his oeuvre: painting, graphic art and sculpture.

Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) will be shown in this exhibition as one of the artists of the second half of the 19th century who took the image beyond the reality seen to become an autonomous work of art. It was Gauguin who understood painting not as a detail of nature, but as a representation of moods, archetypes and emotions.
