Film Festival at City Hall Square

As a sign of solidarity, this year's festival begins with "We Stand With Ukraine". The benefit concert for the people of Ukraine and the many people who have fled the country since the beginning of the war took place in March in Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium and brought together local artists such as Bilderbuch, Wanda and many more.

Throughout the summer, top musical productions from various genres are on the program: The legendary "Havana Moon" concert (2016) of the Rolling Stones in front of 500,000 spectators in the Cuban capital can be seen, as well as the cult band Queen at their memorable performance "Hungarian Rhapsody" 1986 in Budapest.
Music greats such as Tina Turner, Katy Perry, U2, Coldplay, Amy Winehouse and numerous other well-known pop and rock stars such as David Bowie will be seen on the 300 square meter screen, but Austrian performers such as Falco, who would have turned 65 this year, the Amadeus winners Seiler and Speer, or the multi-percussionist Martin Grubinger will not be neglected on the Rathausplatz.

As a special tribute to the recently deceased Willi Resetarits, the Film Festival will show the concert "Be A Mensch" from 2008, which pays tribute to the work of this exceptional artist.

Classical music lovers will benefit in particular from a new cooperation with the Vienna State Opera. The first of these is Rossini's comedic opera "Il Turco in Italia", featuring the powerful voice of soprano Cecilia Bartoli, which will be broadcast live on the second day of the festival (July 3, 2022) on Vienna's Rathausplatz.
A total of ten productions from the Haus am Ring will be shown at the Film Festival 2022, including other operas such as Mozart's "Don Giovanni", operettas such as the Strauss classic "Die Fledermaus", and the contemporary dance piece "Peer Gynt" with the universally known music of Edvard Grieg. Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos" pays tribute to the opera singer Edita Gruberová, who died last year.

Even away from the Vienna State Opera, there is every reason for classical music fans to rejoice: the 2022 New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic  with this year's 80-year-old conductor Daniel Barenboim is on the program, as is a concert by the world-renowned pianist Lang Lang. Film music icon John Williams will also be celebrating a milestone birthday in 2022, and his work will be included in the program, as will that of Hans Zimmer. Those who like jazz or blues will love the concerts of genre legends Dee Dee Bridgewater and B. B. King, and productions such as "Les Misérables in Concert" are sure to put a smile on the faces of all musical fans.
