Theater an der Wien

BEETHOVEN | AN der Wien | DENKEN

Ludwig van Beethoven lived and worked at the Theater an der Wien. Important academies with his works and the world premiere of his only opera Fidelio took place here. Beethoven was integrated into the daily work routines of the theatre and was part of that extensive Viennese network of people who supported and directed the Theater an der Wien, worked in the theatre and were also connected with the theatre during the years of military unrest and political upheaval. Despite these historical facts, the Theater an der Wien plays only a marginal role in the lively culture of remembrance surrounding Beethoven. The exhibition deals with the living and working conditions at the Theater an der Wien around 1805.

The exhibition can be visited from half an hour before the performance begins and during the interval (only with a valid ticket for the performance).
