World Press Photo 2024
With World Press Photo 2024, WestLicht is bringing the most important showcase of international press photography to Vienna for the 23rd time.
The approximately 120 awarded photos were selected by international expert juries from a total of 60,000 submissions by over 4,000 photographers from 130 countries. These images convey moving stories of deprivation, despair, war, and loss, but also of resilience, courage, love, and hope as people face these challenges.
The exhibition not only reflects the dominant news of the past year but also reports on events that have received little attention in this part of the world. The war in Gaza and its aftermath, captured in the World Press Photo of the Year, and the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 are among the exhibition's themes, as are the situation in Ukraine, protests against lignite mining in Germany, and the fight against rising sea levels in the South Pacific.
