World Press Photo 2020

The world comes back to Vienna! From 11 September, international events will once again make a stop at WestLicht, when the World Press Photo Exhibition will present the best press photographs of 2019.

"Straight Voice" is the title of this year's winning picture by the Japanese Agence France-Presse photographer Yasuyoshi Chiba. It shows a young activist in Sudan reciting a poem at a protest rally against the military government on June 19, 2019.

Around 4,300 photographers from 24 countries took part in this year's World Press Photo Contest with almost 74,000 submitted photographs. The jury awarded 44 prizes in eight categories. Among the topics represented in the competition are the catastrophic forest fires in Australia, the struggle between the democracy movement and state power in Hong Kong, the social protests in Chile and the Tiger Kings in the USA.
