Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny
Direction: Jerome Deschamps
Stage design: Olivia Fersioni
Costumes: Vanessa Sannino
Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht developed the full-length opera Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahgonny from the Mahagonny Songspiel dating back to 1927. The opera was first performed in Leipzig on 9 March 1930. The librettist and composer placed the action in what was then the present day in a fictional city described as a place where "everything is allowed". In this composition, Kurt Weill set out to develop a new kind of music theatre, bringing together very different styles and genres, combining quotations and familiar elements.
