"My opera D. Giovanni was performed on 29 Oct. and was loudly applauded" Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote proudly in a letter in 1787. Commissioned after the huge success of Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni was composed in collaboration with the congenial librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte and after some delay was premièred at the Prague National Theatre. The following year, the piece was produced in Vienna - at the request of Emperor Joseph II. (Source: Wiener Staatsoper)
